So I think I tried blogging for like 4 days, as you can see below. So let's try this again. Hopefully this time, I can keep at it a bit longer. I started sharing my ideas on my instagram account and have gotten a lot of positive feedback so I thought this might be helpful. I will start with an introduction and re-introduce myself.
Hi! I am Rachelle Hughes and I have been an Intervention Specialist for students with Multiple Disabilities for 9 years. I started my career as general education major and was pulled into the direction of special education. I got my first job as a long term substitute in a unit in my district called the Cross Categorical Unit which is basically a Multiple Disabilities unit but with a fancy name. I absolutely fell in love with the kids. I became very passionate about advocating for them. That's when I knew that God had put me there for a reason. He wanted me to take my skills into a different direction then what I had originally planned. So I went back for my masters degree and here I am!
I enjoy sharing and helping others and hope that I can share and learn some new things through reaching out and communicating with the rest of the world! #Spedsquad! My motivation for reaching out was a bit of job change. I am in the same position per say, I used to just teach K-1 mild to moderate, but our district did some re-arranging and now I am teaching the K-3 moderate to severe students. I was scared and nervous, the students in my class had different needs then what I was used to teaching. When I tried to find help via social media to get ideas and inspiration from, I couldn't find anyone that I felt was in the same position as I was. Therefore, once I got my confidence up, I decided to start sharing MY ideas in hopes to help someone that was like me (feeling like you were in over your head) find some inspiration and ideas.
I hope I can make new relationships with other educators, share ideas, learn from each other and celebrate the things we accomplish!
